There have been some great examples in the news recently about kids who take matters into their own hands, and fill a need where they see it. I call them "real life Silent Sallys!" I've highlighted a few of them in the past on the Facebook page for Silent Sally, and have just recently discovered a new example of kids being a help to the world around them.
    Yash Gupta, a 15 year old resident of Irvine, California broke his glasses one day on his way to school. Struggling to see in the classroom, the thought came to him that other students might have a similar problem. And what of others who couldn't afford glasses? Would their education be hurt without the ability to see clearly? The idea came to focus for Yash to create a way to help others obtain eyeglasses. His non-profit Sight Learning was born. Welcome to my new blog! My name is Eric Walls, and I'm the author and illustrator of "Silent Sally," a children's picture book about being a selfless giver.
On this blog, I hope to share more about the book, the inspiration for it, the process to create it, and ways I believe it can be used as a tool to help promote your child's development of being a giving person. In addition, I wish to share things not directly about, but relating to the book, such as true stories of kids being "Silent Sally" in their community, and other positive, uplifting encouragements.
